A Franklin College sophomore died Wednesday night while at home with her family.
Andrew Jones, dean of students and vice president for student development, announced the death of sophomore Erin Edwards to the campus community Thursday.
“There are few things as tragic as the loss of a young life,” Jones wrote in the email. “For those of you who knew Erin, there will be a discernible void. For others of you who didn’t know her personally, there will still be the weight of the loss of a member of our community. Please know that there are resources available to help you process this tragic loss.”
Jones said Edwards died at home with her family. He said Edwards’ family reported the student was experiencing no signs of illness. The cause of death remains unknown.
Jones directed students, faculty and staff who are grieving to use campus resources like the Counseling Center.
Hannah Adams-Ingram, the campus chaplain, is also available to help the community. Adams-Ingram also led a community vigil Thursday evening to remember Edwards.
A GoFundMe memorial fund has also been posted to raise money in Edwards’ name.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
